Tube Leak Testing

Tube Leak Testing

Tube leak testing is a crucial step in ensuring the integrity and reliability of heat exchangers, condensers, and similar pressure equipment. It helps identify cracked, corroded, or leaking tubes before the system is put back into service.

Metalok Industries conducts precise leak testing using air pressure, hydrostatic, vacuum, and helium methods, depending on the operating pressure and system requirements. Each test is performed under controlled conditions to ensure accurate results without damaging the tubes or tube sheet.

Our certified technicians utilize advanced testing instruments and calibrated gauges in compliance with ASME, API, and TEMA standards. These procedures ensure that every heat exchanger is thoroughly inspected, verified for leak tightness, and safe for long-term operation under both low and high-pressure conditions.

  • Inspect the heat exchanger and prepare for testing by isolating and draining all fluids.
  • Identify the tubes or sections to be tested.
  • Select the appropriate leak testing method (air, water, or helium).
  • Clean the tubes internally to remove any obstruction or residue.
  • Insert sealing devices or test plugs into tube ends.
  • Apply the required pressure gradually as per test specifications.
  • Monitor for pressure drops or air bubbles indicating leakage.
  • Record and mark all leaking tube locations for repair or plugging.
  • Release pressure safely and remove test equipment after completion.
  • Document test parameters, results, and technician certification for records.
